shake shake shake

Shakers make for fun cards
and I'm hoping the Birthday Girl enjoys hers.

Here is a close-up to show the dimension and how the colours of the sequins match the patterned paper perfectly.  There is a sheet of foam between the patterned paper & the mauve mat and another sheet between the mauve mat & the dark purple base ... I wanted to have lots of room for plenty of sequins and a lot of shaking.  I adhered some of the sequins and the tiny "negative" bits from the middle of the sequins in the window so that it wasn't empty when standing upright.  My Silhouette Pick-Me-Up Tool came in very handy for picking up and placing them all.
The balloons are a combination from three different sets (details below).  I couldn't resist adding a smiley face to a heart balloon and adhered it to a dark purple one so that you could see it clearly.
There are six balloons as the birthday girl is turning six real soon.
I tied holographic thread to each balloon then knotted them together, securing the knot in a brad which I put through the decorative strip.  One balloon was adhered directly to the card, the others were a combination of single or double layered foam dots.  Can you see how I curled the ends of the balloon strings?  I confess, it took me longer to get these balloons sorted than it did to make the rest of the card but it was worth every minute of the delicate fiddling about.

I layered three dark purple sentiments under the mauve top layer for extra POP.

I just had to share another photo, the sequins sparkle and, as they're almost holographic, the purple, pink and aqua shades change as they move.

Ingredients:
  1. Fundamentals (Ruby Rock-It) A5 Stepper Card Base - yes, I trimmed off the front stepper part - I love making tall top-folding cards, these are a great size (8 1/4" tall) and so sturdy.
  2. American Crafts textured cardstock
  3. Kaisercraft - Fairy Tales 12x12" Paper Pad
  4. Winnie & Walter - In A Word - Happy Cutaway
  5. Sizzix Framelits Regal Card Stand-Ups die set by Stephanie Barnard - "birthday" word die
  6. Paper Smooches - Pinked Circles Dies
  7. Paper Smooches - Big Balloon Dies
  8. Paper Smooches - Balloon Dies
  9. Lil' Inker Designs - Balloon Dies
  10. Maria George sequins - Princess Mix
  11. Foam sheets
  12. Holographic thread

I have entered my card in the following challenges:

*********************************
Here is the sketch that Gayatri created for this WCMD challenge, I flipped it for my card.
As there was so much action happening in the shaker area, I thought that the big two line sentiment was enough together to balance it and keep with the design of the sketch.

The challenge is to create and share a never before published card using what you have on hand AND to link at least three or more products used to the scrapbook.com store.
This chunky card will be mailed with Charley's birthday present.

PURPLE is the colour of National Domestic Violence Awareness month.
1 in 3 women will experience domestic violence over the course of their lifetimes.
Let that sink in - 33% of all the women you meet.

And women aren't the only people who are affected! Women, men, transgender - gender doesn't matter. Domestic violence is something that exists regardless of gender, socioeconomic status, religion, education level, etc.  And yet, it's something that is rarely talked about in very public ways. It's something that's hidden and hushed.

With the help of Becca Cruger (our Blog Hop Hostess), crafters from all over the world are banding together to raise awareness about Domestic Violence and say STOP!

There are a lot more details to be found on Becca's Blog "Damsel of Distressed"
YOU can help say STOP, create a purple card, share it on Becca's Blog and have the chance to win from one of the generous The Hop To Stop sponsors.

So many wonderful cards, so many tragic stories, so many brave souls, so many messages of hope!!!

The Hop To STOP . . . 2nd card

PLEASE take the time to join The Hop To Stop and visit some of the blogs linked there.

So many wonderful cards, so many tragic stories, so many brave souls, so many messages of hope!!!

This is the second purple card I have created - after taking the photo of my 1st one (you can see it HERE) I decided that I needed to make another one with MORE PURPLE and contrast.

I am much happier with this version!!!
What do you think?

This time I layered a purple doily under the metallic Mother of Pearl one, it is surprising how much extra contrast it adds.  I also folded the doily over the patterned paper panel, so that the purple mat is visible on all the edges.  The "hugs" sentiment is three die cuts layered together.  I added purple matting to the pennant strips and they really POP.

Ingredients:
Card base - A4 (folded in half) Quill Mother Of Pearl 285gsm metallic cardstock
Purple mat - American Crafts Plum Weave (textured cardstock, same colour is in their value pack)
Patterned paper - Kaisercraft 12x12 Garden Arabesque "Lattice"
Tsukineko Brilliance Archival Pigment Ink - Moonlight White (to ink the edges of the patterned paper, the paper was already distressed around the 12x12 edges, so I had to distress the cut edge to match
Kaisercraft Decorative Die - Doilies
Kaisercraft Foam Dots - to add dimension under the doily
Winnie & Walter - In A Word - Hugs Cutaway
Bella! Bling - Borderlines - cut one of the 12" strips into three for the pennants
Tombow Mono Multi Liquid Glue - it holds everything securely in place, even on the metallic cardstock.
Fiskars - self healing craft mat - to cut and assemble the layers
Fiskars - Finger-Tip craft knife - to cut the matted layers and pennant strips
Fiskars - embossing stylus - to score the card base and the doily
Fiskars - Micro-Tip Scissors - to cut the ends of the pennant strips

Dimensions:
A4 scored cardstock at 14.85mm to make a BIG side fold card
The purple mat is 5 1/2 x 7 15/16"
The patterned paper panel is 5 5/16 x 7 13/16"
The pennant strips are 3/4" wide, I marked 1/4" in from the end and used my micro tip scissors to cut to a point at the 3/8" mark.
The purple mat under the pennant strips is 7/8" wide and I fussy cut the points after the Mother of Pearl metallic strips were adhered on top.

I have entered my card in the following challenges:

*********************************
As per above, the challenge is to make a card with purple.

*********************************
The challenge is to create and share a never before published card using what you have on hand AND to link at least three or more products used to the scrapbook.com store.  All of the ingredients were from my stash ... I have to confess that the patterned paper has been waiting in my stash for quite a few years.  The bonus is, now that I have cut the 12x12 sheet, it will be making a couple more cards real soon.

*********************************
The challenge is to link up a recently made card.

Winnie & Walter
World Cardmaking Day 2015 Craftie Challenge For All!
Julie & Shay kicked off WCMD with an fun & easy challenge for everyone - the challenge is to share a craftie.  My craftie is the photo showing my Winnie & Walter In A Word - Hugs Cutaway all smothered with glue, ready to be layered together for extra dimension.

So many wonderful cards, so many tragic stories, so many brave souls, so many messages of hope!!!

Here is the purple card I created.

The PURPLE was inspired by The Hop To Stop and I have linked it to Becca's Blog linky.

After taking the photo, I have to confess that I will be making another one but adding more purple to add more contrast.  I plan on folding the doily over the patterned paper layer, so that the purple mat shows across the top edge.  I think that the pennant strips and doily need more contrast too, they get a bit "lost" against the patterned paper, so will try them with some purple matting.

EDITED
I have made another one of these cards (you can never have too many HUGS to share) and I'm much happier with "mark II" - you can read all about it HERE.

Ingredients:
Card base - A4 (folded in half) Quill Mother Of Pearl 285gsm metallic cardstock
Purple mat - American Crafts Plum Weave (textured cardstock, same colour is in their value pack)
Patterned paper - Kaisercraft 12x12 Garden Arabesque "Lattice"

The design was inspired by the sketch shared on the
Scrapbook & Cards Today Blog World Cardmaking Day 2015 - Sketch Challenge

and I have entered in their challenge.
Entries must be submitted by Friday 9th October.

I have entered my card in the following challenges:

*********************************
As per above, the challenge is to make a card with purple.

*********************************
The challenge is to create a card based on one of the four sketches in the challenge post.
I used the 1st sketch - it is shown above.

*********************************
Scrapbook & Cards Today World Cardmaking Day 2015 - Round Robin Challenge
The challenge is to create a card based on the inspiration photo or one of the cards shared by the challenge post.
Although my card was originally based on a sketch from the SCT Sketch Challenge (above), I was also inspired by the wicker chair in the original inspiration photo, so combined them together.
My doily and pennant strips mimic the rounded shape and three legs visible in the chair image.  The patterned paper I used also has diamond shapes like the fabric in the pouffe.
