Delightful Dahlias

It's time for a new challenge with us on the

Today I have used the Dahlia Garden digital stamp from Fred She Said Designs, one of our generous sponsors for this challenge, to make some cards.

I started by printing a bundle of the beautiful flowers and leaves in different sizes from the fabulous digital stamp set and quietly fussy cutting them before pulling out my Copic markers to colour them.

Then, circumstances suddenly changed for our family and I needed some "thinking of you" and "get well soon" cards, so I headed back to my Silhouette Studio design mat and layered a dahlia over some leaves, added a sentiment to make these cards.  I printed the card panels on X-Press It blending card, heat set, trimmed to 7" x 5", then coloured with Copic markers.  Why did I choose a single dahlia?  Well, it's because the "Thelma Maude Dinner Plate Dahlia" holds strong sentimental value for the precious family members that I'm making these cards for.  It was a tough challenge though, as these huge blooms have such dark, dark flowers and I confess, I struggled.  I tried colouring two different ways, one with the "traditional" dark centres and lighter tipped petals, the other with some lighter shading across the middle of each petal to give some curved dimension.  I kept on layering more colour and still think that I need to try them again with some underpainting and without the lightest shade ... hoping it will work out like it looks in my mind!

. . . this card ended up being 7" wide x 4 3/4" high . . .
I dropped the RV99 marker and it did not want to disappear, no matter
how much magic "0" Colourless Blender I used, so I trimmed it off

Luckily the Get Well Soon card had no mishaps and remained 7" wide x 5" high.

Another rockin' birthday . . . country style

It's time for a new challenge with us on the

As always, the challenge is Anything Goes.
Three to five random winners are drawn and
each get to choose 3 set of papers from the Paper Pick Tab

~~~*~~~*~~~
Today I have used two Star Splash Mixed Media digital papers by Lozzy at A Bit More Time To Craft.  It's the 35th digital paper set in the Paper Pick Tab. and it's a wonderful design in 18 different colours.  How awesome is it to have mixed media without the mess?!?!
I increased the patterned papers to 7" square then "trimmed" them to 5" x 7" on my Silhouette Studio design mat.  I added the PNG format of the Ewe Rock digital stamp and digital sentiment and sized them to fit on the paper panels.  I printed the image panels on A4 cardstock, heat set, coloured with Copic markers, including the stars in the background, then trimmed down to size.  I added a thick layer of Glossy Accents to the sunglasses to make the rocking sheep even more cool.  While the sunglasses were drying (it's true, watched Glossy Accents never dries), I as admiring the Star Splash Mixed Media paper.  It is filled with fun layered dimension and texture, so I decided to splash on some more more sparkle.  I dotted some Stardust Stickles around the rocking sheep then sprinkled a mixture of white and silver glitter over it.  Next came some more Stickles, which I dotted over the "sparkle" elements on the patterned paper, making the sparkle more delicate by leaving the dots to dry without extra glitter.
Click on the images if you would like to see the detail in full screen.
This post is to focus on the red card.
I love the shiny finish on the sunglasses.
Note to self - use Glossy Accents more!
The face and legs were coloured by layering some E01 & E02
down then blending it with N1 & N3.
Today I have used the Penguin Friends digital stamp set from The Paper Shelterour generous sponsor this month, to make some winter birthday cards.
This post is about the CAS layered card.
You can read about the other (square distressed) card HERE.
This card uses the pre-coloured image that is included in the Penguin Friends digital stamp set.  I opened the image panel in Silhouette Studio and sized it for the front of my card.  I "picked" the brown from her hair and used it to make the sentiment panel (ZP Congrats Stencil font, details below).  I printed the image panel on smooth white cardstock then trimmed it down to 2 1/4" wide x 4" high.  I printed the sentiment panel on smooth white cardstock then trimmed it down to 5 3/4" wide x 3" high.  I cut another "plain" panel from smooth white cardstock to 7" wide x 5" high.  I matted all three panels with amethyst cardstock, trimming them to a 1/16" border.  I matted the image and sentiment panels a second time with eggplant cardstock, trimming to a 1/8" border.
I made the 7 1/4" wide x 5 1/4" high top folding card base from eggplant cardstock and adhered all the layers in place with liquid adhesive.  The matted image panel was popped in place with foam squares.
I finished off the card by punching some snowflakes from the same cardstock and layered them together.
Here's a closer look at my other card.  You can read all about this distressed square birthday card filled with penguin kisses and birthday wishes HERE or by clicking on the photo below.
Today I have used the Penguin Friends digital stamp set from The Paper Shelterour generous sponsor this month, to make some winter birthday cards.
This post is about the distressed square card.
This card uses the pre-coloured image and scene that is included in the Penguin Friends digital stamp set.  I opened the image panel in Silhouette Studio and sized it for the front of my card.  I "picked" the brown from her hair and used it to make the sentiment panel (Lily Bloom Regular font, details below), colouring the background for the panel and the image matting panel by "picking" the cream from the flourishes.  I printed the image panel on smooth white cardstock then trimmed down to 5" x 5".  I distressed the edges (three times, but we are not going to talk about what happened to the first two image panels).  I printed the sentiment panel and first matting panel, trimmed to size and distressed the edges.  Next came another two matting panels in amethyst and eggplant, along with more distressing.
I made the 6" square card base from eggplant cardstock and adhered all the layers in place with liquid adhesive.  The layered sentiment panel was popped in place with foam squares.  I finished off the card by punching some snowflakes from the same cardstock and layered them together.
Here's a closer look at my second card.  You can read all about this CAS layered birthday card filled with penguin kisses and birthday wishes HERE or by clicking on the photo below.
