Day 27 - X is for X-Press It

It's time for the 12th Annual Month of Holiday Cards Challenge at Beccy's Place.
You can read the rules HERE or head over to Beccy's Challenges and enter HERE.

Beccy's inspiration is a delightful winter scene card HERE,
with the snowman coloured beautifully on X-Press It blending card.

My "X" is also for X-Press It blending card,
I printed the image panel on X-Press It blending card
and made another Candy Cane Christmas Card
coloured with Copic markers, this time
I swapped the red and green from my first card.

No, you're not seeing things,
I shared a red Candy Cane Christmas Card for Day 3 HERE

Like my first Candy Cane Card, I used Silhouette Studio to create the image panel for my card.  I sized the Texture Candy digital stamp from the Candy Canes digital stamp set from Beccy’s Place to fit a 4" square panel.  I created the sentiment (font details below), printed the panel on X-Press It blending card then manually trimmed to size.  I used Copic markers to colour the candy cane, OK, it's partially coloured, this is my quirky take on the "loading t-shirts" you see people wearing and translating it to Christmas.  Once coloured, I matted the panel with sparkling red glitter cardstock.  I made a 5 1/2" square top folding card base, adhered the image panel and my Candy Cane Christmas Card was complete.

Here are my green and red Candy Cane Christmas cards together.

and here are my red and green Candy Cane Christmas cards
with the red Curly Candy Cane Christmas card.

this month, so I'm going to enter this card in the December Challenge too.

Day 30 - Doing what I love with dimension again

It's time for the 12th Annual Month of Holiday Cards Challenge at Beccy's Place.
You can read the rules HERE or head over to Beccy's Challenges and enter HERE.

Beccy's inspiration is a set of four STUNNING cards HERE,
she has coloured a single poinsettia image in shades of grey then cut it into four
- WOW - they're breathtakingly beautiful!

My list for "Do What You Love" is endless, because I love making anything
and everything papercraft, from cards to treat boxes and decor pieces.
This time my love is for dimension again, more cards with lots of inky dimension.

To make these cards, I opened the Joy This Holiday Christmas Card cut file (details & links below, available from two stores) in Silhouette Studio and enlarged the card.  One of my favourite sizes is 5” x 7” and this card was A2, which is a much smaller 5 ½” x 4 ¼”.  The best I could do was to lock the aspect of the grouped elements of the card and enlarge it to be 6 ¾” wide x 5” tall, almost 5" x 7" and it will fit nicely in a 5” x 7” envelope.  I changed the sentiment for this card and used one of my favourites from Beccy’s Place, the Merry Little Christmas digital sentiment from the Jingle Bells digital stamp set.  I printed the sentiment panels then cut all the pieces in Vintage shades of textured cardstock (details below).  I inked the flowers, foliage and sentiment panels with Distress Inks, curled the petals and leaves then assembled the layers.  I used 300gsm smooth white cardstock to make card base then adhered the assembled layers on top.

The layered sentiment panels were popped with foam dots so that
they would sit neatly over the sprigs of foliage and berries.

Here they are together, same but a little bit different.

After the sticky situation I had earlier today, I didn't think I would be using foam dots again for a very long time but the dimension of the poinsettia was calling for a dimensional sentiment, so I popped foam dots between each sentiment layer.

Here they are together, same but a little bit different.

Day 26 - W is for Winter Wonderland . . . take 2

It's time for the 12th Annual Month of Holiday Cards Challenge at Beccy's Place.
You can read the rules HERE or head over to Beccy's Challenges and enter HERE.

Beccy's inspiration is a delightful white-on-white card HERE

My "W" is for Winter Wonderland,
another layered Winter Wonderland shadowbox scene card,
this time without the shadow.

My first attempt at making this card design is HERE.

My layered Winter Wonderland scene card started with a cut file (details & link below).  I enlarged the file from being a 6" x 4" card up to 6 3/4" x 4 1/2", no, it's not my preferred 7" x 5" but this size is a compromise, larger for cutting the delicate elements with the added bonus of fitting two panels on 12"x12" sheets of cardstock.  I gathered one of my last packs of American Crafts Winter Cardstock and selected the colours to layer together (details below, sorry, no links, this cardstock is no longer available) and started cutting.  Now this is when the "shadow" part of the card is supposed to happen.  I struggled adding the foam dots to my first attempt making this cut file design, my fumble fingers just didn't want to play with a gazillion foam dots, single layer foam dots, double layered foam dots and triple, yes triple, layered foam dots.  So I made an executive decision, no more foam dots.  I used liquid adhesive to secure the layers in place, nice and flat.

The different colours of each layer still give a nice dimension to the scene.

I love the dimension ...
... just feeling a bit challenged by getting the layers stuck on my fingers
while trying to remove all the little cover tabs from the foam dots!
