Flora and Fauna with Team Lou

It's time for another challenge with us at the Southern Girls.

This fortnight Team Lou have created projects to inspire you for the new challenge

Our generous sponsors for this challenge are:

Waffle Flower Stamps & Dies

~~~*~~~*~~~
Today I have used the Lacy Flower clear stamp by Waffle Flower Stamps and Dies, one of our generous sponsors this fortnight.  I've had this stamp set in my stash for a while now but I'm thrilled to report that it's still in stock in the Waffle Flower store (link below) and highly recommend the design and quality ... you might add it to your shopping cart if you're the lucky challenge winner.
I tried something new for me, colouring on Kraft.  I dusted the front panel of the card base with powder, then, using my MISTI, I stamped the largest Lacy Flower image and sentiment on a Kraft card base with Versamark watermark ink.  I smothered the stamping with embossing powder, shook off the excess then gently removed any stray granules before zapping it with my heat tool.  I always love watching the magic happen when embossing powder melts.
I gave the card a few minutes to cool down then coloured the segments of the image with Kaisercraft metallic gel pens.  These pens are so juicy and have such a luscious metallic shimmer and shine which looks even more decadent against the Kraft cardstock.
It's not very often that I stamp and colour directly on to a card base.  It was nice not to worry about layers or colours bleeding through.  Using the MISTI would make it quick and easy to make a bundle of these CAS cards to have ready and waiting for some "colouring therapy".
. . . . . exciting news . . . . . I'm Guest Designer on the My Besties 3D and More Challenge Blog
Exciting news!
I'm thrilled to be
Guest Designer
on the
I hope you get inspired, create a project and enter the new
Today I have used the super cute
to make a card with fancy folds and lots of sparkle.
The card folds flat, perfect for mailing ...
It has a cute surprise hidden inside ...
... and here she is.
I think that she is a real cutie.
I started out on my Silhouette Studio design mat, taking purchased cut file (details below), planning and sizing all the panels needed to make these fancy folds, with some extra matted panels inside and out.
The folded card is 4 5/8" wide x 7 3/8" tall.
I created "mirror images" of the front matting panels & butterflies so that I could mat inside the card too.  I also made matting panels to go under the image panel inside and the sentiment panel on the back.  I sized the image and sentiment panels to suit the matting panels.
I cut all the panels with my Silhouette Cameo, except for the image panel.
I prefer to cut the heavy weight blending card by hand.
I printed the image panel on X-Press It Blending Card, heat set then coloured with Copic markers and gel pens.  I added a thick dollop of Glossy Accents to the lenses of her sunglasses.  When the GA set, I trimmed the panel down to size and punched ornate corners in the top corners, with the pattern popping against the black panel behind it.
I added sparkling black micro fine glitter to all the butterflies then adhered them in place on the side panels, inside & out.  Next came the patterned paper layers.  They were a bit more challenging, as the glitter made the butterflies slightly larger, making it a very tight fit.
Here are some more pics to show the fancy folds.
Just click on the image to see it in full screen.
Bold and beautiful Christmas wishes
Hopefully you have already heard my exciting news,
seen my cards in THIS post and
entered for your chance to win on The Stencil Specialist Blog HOP.
This card uses the Stampendous Pine Ornaments Cling Rubber Stamp,
Winnie & Walter bow die and Cottage Cutz spruce stems.
I measured the stamp and cut some 3" x 4 1/4" panels to stamp them on.
I aligned the stamp with a panel in my MISTI and started stamping.
I stamped the panel with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink (Copic friendly) and zapped it with my heat gun to make sure it was completely dry.  Then came the Copic marker colouring to give the ornaments a pop of colour and dimension.  I used a gold metallic gel pen to colour the top of the ornaments, the round accent on the largest ornament and the accent star bursts & splatters.
I matted the image panel with black cardstock,
giving it a 1/2" border using my Perfect Layers Ruler.
I die cut the dimensional bow (Winnie & Walter) in white cardstock and shaded with red Copic markers to match the ornaments.  I die cut bundles of pine broughs (Cottage Cutz) in black cardstock, then layered them all together with the image panel on the card base.
You don't look a day over FABULOUS
It's time for another challenge with us at the
This week we are letting our creative juices flow with
Challenge #126 - Emboss It
The sponsors for this challenge are:
Prize: 2 Images DT Used
Star Stampz
Prize: 3 Digital Images
~~~*~~~*~~~

Today I have used the absolutely fabulous Birthday Girl digital stamp from Lia Stampz, one of our generous sponsors this week.

I printed the image on A5 X-Press It blending card, zapped it with my heat gun then coloured with Copic markers.  We have lots of red-heads in our family and on seeing this image I was reminded of two of our nieces, so this is my first time going for red hair.  This red combo used E13 E15 E18.  I have some darker marker combos ready to try for even richer hair and darker little black dress so that both nieces can get their glamorous birthday wishes just a day apart.  Yes, I know the skin is fair, but these sisters have very fair skin to go with their very red hair.
I used a white gel pen to give the pearls in her necklace
some extra dimension and an ultra white finish.

The sentiment is a combination of fonts (Bradley Hand ITC and LW Sweetie Pie).  After I printed the sentiment panel, I swiped it with my powder tool, went over the letters with a Versamarker pen, smoothered it with clear embossing powder and melted it with my heat tool.  I gave the "fabulous" a double coat to make the letters even more luscious.

This card is quite large at 8x8".  I made a top folding card base by scoring the top of the back panel and adhered it to the front panel.  The base is matted with textured cardstock then layered with luscious glitter cardstock.  I matted the image panel and sentiment panel with the same textured black cardstock, keeping a perfect 1/8" border by using a Perfect Layers ruler.  It is usually a challenge to keep layers securely in place when using glittered cardstock but it's not a problem with my go-to glue, Helmar 450 Quick Dry.  It's like using a hot glue gun without the "hot".  I finished off the design by die cutting a bow, using the handle of a fine brush to give a smooth curve to the loops and tails.

If you have visited before, you will know that I can't resist sharing extra pics,
so here a couple more, taken in brighter natural light.

LOVE . . . My Besties style + exciting news!

I have been invited to be Guest Designer on the

Today I have used the Steampunk Bestie by Sherri Baldy.

It has been a creative adventure making this card,
using a combination of
printing a digital stamp,
electronic and manual die cutting,
masking and ink blending,
Copic marker and Gel Pen colouring,
punching and lots of fun.

My top hat shaped card stands 6" tall and 8 1/4" wide.

I imported the digital stamp on to my Silhouette Cameo mat, placed it on to the top hat cut file and printed it on X-Press It Blending Card then cut it out using my Cameo.
I also used the hat cut file to make a top folding card base.

I printed another copy on photocopy paper and glued it to a panel of X-Press It Mask It.  I slowly fussy cut out the image to make my very own My Besties Steampunk mask.

I carefully applied the mask over the image on the cut panel.
Then the inky fun began.  I blended Walnut Stain Distress Ink over the entire background, the mask around the image worked a treat.  Note to self - next time I need to cut the image into the outline, so that it doesn't leave any white edges around the image.

I decided that the top hat needed some more blending to give it some dimension, so I carefully applied the mask over the image again, then took some strips of Mask It to mask the middle "hat band" section of the hat and blended with Gathered Twigs.

I removed that mask then took the "negative" from the rim that comes with the cut file to mask off that section and make it ready for some more blending.  I only have a few Distress Ink mini pads and markers, so I took my Black Soot Distress Marker, scribbled it on to some scrap from the Mask It (the section that is peeled off to expose the adhesive side of mask) then loaded up my blending tool sponge.  It took quite a few times of scribbling and blending before the section was fully covered but well worth the effort, I really was impressed with the result.  I should have taken a photo before I started colouring and embellishing ... another thing to remember for next time.

I coloured most of the image with Copic markers, the metallic cogs and accents were coloured with Kaisercraft metallic gel pens, using my piercing tool to get in to all the fine points.  I used a black Copic Multi Liner to darken any smudged edges.

Glossy Accents were added to the glass of the monocle and goggles.

There are leafy strands flowing from the hat on this image but they kind of disappeared in to the dark background, so I thought that a little dimension would balance with the other side of the card.

I'm thrilled with the monocle on the octopus, the Glossy Accents make it look so real.

I added some black and dark brown to the sparkling "love", it was a little too sparkly.
The velvet heart brad was a little bright too, so I coloured it with R46 to tone it down.

The feathers were die cut from X-Press It blending card and coloured with Copic markers in the same shades as her dress.  I used a variety of punches to cut the flowers, colouring them with matching markers too.

The cogs / gears were cut using the Silhouette Cameo, some came with the Steampunk Top Hat image, the others were from a separate set (details below).  I coloured some with the metallic gel pens to add some contrast to the layers.
