Today I have used the Winter Flamingos Set 2 digital stamp set from
Sparkle N Sprinkle (details & link below),
one of our generous sponsors this week,
to make a card-in-a-box.

I used my Silhouette Studio to plan, size and cut the elements for this card.  I started by opening the cut file for the snowflake card-in-a-box (links below), adding the digital flamingo stamp and sentiment (from the same stamp set), then sizing the digital stamps to fit on to the matting panels of the card.  (Note: this cut file comes with elements to cut from the main panel - I replaced them with the digital image and sentiment.)  I printed the image and sentiment panels then cut with my Silhouette Cameo.  I cut the card panels and some extra, smaller re-sized snowflakes.

As I printed the flamingo image on textured cardstock, I carefully coloured the image with Copic markers.  It doesn't blend as well as blending cardstock but I'm really happy how it turned out.  I scored the folds of the card base, assembled the layers, then adhered them in place with liquid adhesive.  Next came the "bridges" in the middle of the card.  They are a bit fiddly to secure in place but once they're there and the snowflakes added, it is well worth the effort.  I attached some snowflakes to strips of acetate to add some "floating" snowflakes to this fun card.  I die cut some smaller snowflakes and added them to fill the "gaps" and add some dimension.

I confess that my writing on our Christmas cards was pretty ordinary this year,
so I decided to print a sentiment, leaving me with minimal handwriting.

It's a fun fold with lots of dimension that folds flat for mailing.

NOW it's YOUR turn!

I hope that I have inspired you to get creative

  6. I love the non-traditional colors used on your fun box card. The placement of the snowflakes is perfect, because it doesn't obscure the adorable flamingo!!

  7. Hi Tracy!

Your cards are always spectacular! I love how bright and colorful this card is and that it is in colors that the recipient wouldn't be expecting at Christmastime.

Copics are my go to coloring medium. However, if Stampin' Up! offered refills for the Blends markers, I would use them instead. I do think they hit on something that blends more easily than Copics (and somehow, the caps never get messy, which is a pet peeve of mine with Copics. I clean mine constantly!). But, I don't like the idea of throwing away so many markers that could easily be refilled. Anyway...

I also wanted to mention that I am not able to think of her name right now (Margaret? Maybe.), but I met the owner of Sparkle and Sprinkle several years ago when I attended a stamp show with Dan's Aunt Beulah. So, my ears naturally perk up when the company is mentioned.

I love my Copics and also dread cleaning them too but it sure makes a difference. How exciting to meet the SNS owner, they have wonderful designs and are always adding to their range of designers and designers.
Good Luck with the prize draw!
