Crafty Gals Corner - Challenge #87 - Anything Goes

It's time for another challenge with us on the
This week we are going freestyle with
Challenge #87 - Anything Goes

Today I have used the delightful "The Perfect Christmas Tree" digital stamp from QKR Stampede, one of our generous sponsors for the challenge this week to create my DT project.

Tree trunks and wooden planks were more of a challenge than I thought.
I practised a few times and finally decided less detail is better.
After some searching online, I also found that a
touch of W3 & W5 adds an aged effect to wood.
What do you think?

I did try this image with a touch of green on the pine broughs and
a touch of colour around the ground but it just didn't look "right"
... I might try it again with a "lighter" touch

*** INGREDIENTS ***
Copic markers - star - Y02 Y06
Copic markers - ornament - R22 R24 R27 with a touch of "0"
Copic markers - tree - E31 E34 E29
Copic markers - wooden planks - E31 E34 E35 E29 W3 W5

The challenge is to include a ball or a sport that uses a ball
My balls are the ornaments on my Christmas tree

I was inspired by the wood, earthy shades and pop of red in the image.

PS - my DT card started with a rectangle image panel to go over the burlap.  By happy coincidence, I saw Sketch #251 by Cindy at Freshly Made Sketches.  It was almost the same as the card I had planned. except her top layer was oval and the "belly band" was directly under the oval, so I decided to make a change from my usual geometric layers and die cut the image panel oval like her sketch found HERE.

... more embossing

I was super lucky and received two images for
the Crafty Gals Corner - Challenge #86 - Emboss It,
so I have two cards to share this week.

I coloured her with Copic markers, fussy cut then went around the edges with a Versamark Memento Tuxedo Black dual tip marker.  This was my first time using this marker and it worked wonderfully, no bleeding and good coverage of all the white edges ... I'm asking myself why didn't I order one of these years ago?!?!?
Needless to say, I highly recommend one for every crafty stash now that I've used it.

I also recommend that Copic markers are opened well away from your work.
I am fairly new to the wonderful world of Copic colouring and some of my markers are super juicy, leaving little splatters each time the caps are removed.
Splatters on your image are a real nuisance, especially if they land after an area has been coloured.  Even the Colourless Blender has its limitations.

I dry embossed the lines in the background, trying to make her look like she has the spotlight shining on this cute little ringmaster.  Or should I say ringmistress?

I heat embossed the die cut "celebrate" sentiment.  ... it was a fiddly job, but well worth it.  I die cut the sentiment, took each letter and covered them with Versamark Ink using the brush tip of the pen, smothered them with clear embossing powder then carefully placed them in the negative piece from the original die cutting.  I placed a strip of Washi Tape along the back, so that the letters stayed securely in place for when I zapped them with the heat gun.  It was my first time trying this technique and it worked a treat, not one letter went flying.

Crafty Gals Corner - Challenge #86 - Emboss It

It's time for another challenge on the Crafty Gals Corner Blog.

Today I have used the super cute Brittany Digital Stamp by Nikki Burnette, one of our generous sponsors this week.

I cut the tree layers using the Hansel and Gretal cut file byErin Doran from the Silhouette Design Store using my Silhouette Cameo machine.  I cut "Hansel & Gretal" out from the top layer and the little house from the middle layer, adding some more grass to it instead.  I punched out two strips of grass using a border punch to add more layers to fill the little hill around Brittany's feet.

I added lots of texture by dry embossing the tree trunks with a stylus and woodgrain texture plate.  This photo shows the back of the tree trunks as I embossed them, I moved the trunks around so that the grain was going in the right direction for each one.  Once the embossing was done, I lightly brushed each layer with Distress Ink to accent the texture.

I stamped and heat embossed stars on the background with clear embossing powder.
Initially I stamped the cluster of stars from the stamp set but found that they were too close together, so I placed the "loose" stars onto a block and randomly stamped them over the background.

I coloured Brittany with Copic markers (details of colours used listed below).

... and one last photo of the card.  This flat view shows the texture of the dry embossed trees and the shine of the heat embossed stars.

Crafty Gals Corner - Challenge #85 - Any Holiday

*** SURPRISE ***

It's time for another challenge on the Crafty Gals Corner Blog!

No, you're not seeing things, we have TWO challenges this week.

Our second challenge starting today is ...
Challenge #85 - Any Holiday

I have used the super cute "A Special Gift - Percy and Lilly Digital Christmas Stamp" from Jiggery Makery, one of our fabulous sponsors for the challenge this week.

As soon as I saw Percy and Lilly I thought they would look perfect inside a shaker snow globe.  What do you think?

I had a decorative bling shape in my stash and the smallest rhinestones in it were just the right size to fit inside her necklace, so out came my micro-tip scissors, I trimmed the glue from the edges and they look like they were made to measure.  Sadly the glitter was very "attracted" to them but I'm going to pretend that they're diamonds surrounding huge faceted pieces of pink topaz.
I added huge dollops of Frosted Lace Stickles to the fluffy trim and pom poms on their hats to add dimension without too much sparkle.  I used my piercing tool to drag it out into the points along the edges.

I used the Snow Globe cut file by Lisa Norris from the Silhouette Design Store as a base for my card.  This file is a flat image, not a card file.  I enlarged all the elements so that the snow globe would stand 6 1/4" tall.  I added the "window" to make it into a shaker.  I cut eight red "window" layers, one blue background layer and three red background / base layers (one to "hide" the back of the blue layer, two to adhere together to make a sturdy "back" for this weighty top folding card.)  I spaced the snowy hills with several "window" layers between each one and the background for added dimension.  I scored the double thickness red "back" layer at 1" and adhered it to the back of the shaker panel, transforming it from a flat panel into a top folding card.  I used Tombow Mono Multi liquid adhesive to secure all the layers in place, except joining the back to the shaker, I used the super strong Helmar Acid Free Professional to secure them firmly together (this liquid glue can be used for book binding).

NOTE: do NOT put foam dots behind images you place in a shaker!
... they provide a perfect ledge for everything to get STUCK!

Crafty Gals Corner - Challenge #84 - Bingo

*** see end of post for special surprise ***

It's time for another challenge at the Crafty Gals Corner.
This week we are playing BINGO for Challenge #84

Here is the bingo card we are using to inspire your project.

Today I have used the Chastity Steam Punk 2 digital image from Scrapper's Delights, our fabulous sponsor for the challenge this week.
NOTE: I have "flipped" the image as I wanted Chastity to be facing in towards the clock.

My BINGO line is Designer Paper + Hand Colored Digi + Die Cuts / Punches.
I also have some metallic flower beads that I'm calling a little Bingo Bonus

This is my first attempt at Steam Punk and I confess, it was a challenge to start with.  After a little homework via the wonderful "www" I think it is a fun style.

I layered two large cogs over the smaller clock in the large decorative die cut piece, then I aligned two smaller cogs with the teeth of the larger cog and adhered them in place.

Check out Chastity in her fancy blue dress and hat adorned with fabulous feathers.
I coloured her with Copic markers, along with some Gel Pens (details below).
I added a dollop of Glossy Accents to her clock and goggles to give them a glassy finish.

Here is a close-up pic showing the dimension and shine of the Glossy Accents in her goggles.  I think it adds a fun touch to them and to her clock face.

... one last pic with the card closed, showing how the die cut elements were combined together with this cute digital image..

Penguin snow globe shaker

I had fun combining digital stamping, Copic colouring, Cameo cutting and MISTI stamping to create this snow globe shaker card.

I made some adjustments to the flat snowglobe cut file to make it into a top folding card with a shaker window that stands 6 1/4" tall.

NOTE: do NOT put foam dots behind images you place in a shaker!
... they provide a perfect ledge for everything to get STUCK!

... I'm not so sure that I should have included the glitter inside the shaker with the snowflakes.  Even with a dusting of my anti-static powder, the glitter is sticking everywhere!
