Day 16 - N is for Non-Traditional

It's time for the 12th Annual Month of Holiday Cards Challenge at Beccy's Place.

You can read the rules HERE or head over to Beccy's Challenges and enter HERE.

Beccy's inspiration is a magical Northern Lights Night sky card HERE

My "N" is for Non-Traditional,
Non-Traditional Christmas colours and
Non-Traditional modern Christmas card design.

It's time for the non-traditional Christmas card colours of aqua and pink, with a non-traditional modern Christmas card design.  My cards started as a Folded Card With Bow cut file in Silhouette Studio and soon become a bundle of pretty pieces waiting to be assembled.  I started with the bow, curling the layers before adhering then curling again before forming and adhering the pieces together.  NOTE-to-self: do NOT glue ribbon layers together, just adhere at middle and ends otherwise it is near impossible to curl the sides enough to form the bow - don't ask me how I know.  Next came the delicate flourishes, which I adhered in place carefully with fine tip tweezers.  All the pieces were soon adhered in place but I planned for a little "more" to make them look more "Christmassy".  You may have seen a lot of crafters making clip on faux leather hair bows with poinsettias in the middle, so that's what I did, I made some poinsettias.  I cut some layered poinsettia flowers (full details below) from textured cardstock, curled the petals and leaves, added a bit of foam dot pop along with a touch of orange rhinestone bling.  I secured the poinsettias to the middle of each bow and I thought the cards were finished ... I decided they needed a sentiment panel inside, so I went to one of my favourite digital sentiments from Beccy’s Place.  Yes, you guessed it, it's "Have yourself a Merry little Christmas" from the Christmas Blooms digital stamp set from Beccy’s Place.  I created a panel to go inside the cards, added the sentiment and sent it to print N cut.  As soon as they were adhered in place, my cards were ready and waiting for me to write a special message.

  1. These are fabulous cards Tracy!! The big, dimensional bows look fantastic and I love that you've decorated them with the poinsettias, which are also gorgeous. Curling the different sections adds lots of dimension and gives a more natural look to the bow and the flowers (thanks for the tip about not gluing too early!). The curly details you added remind me of the icing you see on decorated fruit cakes or gingerbread houses. I love the colour combo too!
    Cheers,
