Day 3 - C is for Cardinals

It's time for the 12th Annual Month of Holiday Cards Challenge at Beccy's Place.
You can read the rules HERE or head over to Beccy's Challenges and enter HERE.

Beccy's inspiration is a set of Candy Cane cards HERE

My C is for Cardinals,
a trio of Crimson red Cardinals with Crests.

Using Silhouette Studio, I opened the cut file for the cardinal card (full details below).  I soon realised what the #10 meant, it was #10 size, which is 4" wide x 9 1/4" high, just a little too big.  I adjusted the card to be 3 1/2" wide, the standard slimline size.  With the scaling, it meant the card was a bit shorter than slimline at 8 1/4" high, which works well for me, as I have bundles of slimline envelopes ready and waiting to be filled.  Instead of cutting the card base with the cut detail on the front as one piece, I converted it to be a cut card front.  I made a shorter slimline card base from 300gsm smooth cardstock, making the card much sturdier than it would have been if cut from textured cardstock.  I cut the tree panel, cardinals and matting layer from textured cardstock and layered on to the card base.

Even though we don't have a winter Christmases or cardinals flying around, cardinal cards remind me of the traditional style Christmas cards sent and received in my younger days, so it should bring back memories for others too.  How wonderful it must be to see the flash of crimson red crested cardinals flying against stark white snow days.  ... we're halfway there with silver birch trees growing in the garden, I wouldn't give up the amazing rainbow of birds we have visit our house all year round though :)

  1. I agree with the cardinals and winter scenes Tracy... not something we experience here, but pretty all the same. Love the colour contrast.
