G is for Green Giraffe Card

G is for Green Giraffe Card

This cute card uses the "Merle" pre-coloured stamp and the "Twinkle Twinkle Christmas Lights" digital sentiment from the Merle digital stamp set by Beccy’s Place.
I love this fun image and, would you believe it, my design was inspired by a roll of Fairy Lights Christmas ribbon, with the lights all tangled, just like Merle's.  The ribbon is actually printed, not the flimsy "vinyl" style that peels easily, so I thought that I could use it to "mat" some cardstock.

I opened the digital stamp and sentiment in Silhouette Studio, along with a fancy fold card base, a Square Centre Step Card cut file (details below) and sized everything to fit.  I printed the image panel on textured cardstock and cut the card base and accent strips from textured cardstock too.  Ooh, it was amazing how quick and easy it was for me to peel the card base from my cutting mat and to burnish the folds ... so many hours in the past spent trying to manually cut and score the folds "just right".  Next came the test to see if what I had envisioned would actually work.  I took one of the side panel accent strips and adhered two long strips of high tack double-sided tape along the length, with it hanging over the ends by just over half the length of the strip at each end.  I burnished the tape to the cardstock, peeled off the protective layer from the tape and aligned a strip of Fairy Lights ribbon along the tape, across the strip then across to the other end of the tape.  I burnished the ribbon to the tape and cardstock then carefully lifted it up ... yes, when I say carefully I mean it, "high tack" really means HIGH TACK and sure was super sticky.  I held the ribbon firmly at one end of the cardstock and folded it over the back, burnishing firmly.  I took the other end, with sharp scissors on hand, I folded the ribbon over and pressed down until the "new" end touched the other end, snipping off so that both ends sat flat behind the cardstock strip.  The ensures that the panel can be adhered in place evenly, no unsightly lumps and bumps.  I repeated this for the other strips then adhered them to the card base with liquid adhesive.

I love the cheery colours and texture of the ribbon,
a perfect match for poor tangled Merle.

Another great thing about this fancy fold is that even though it opens with lots of dimension, it folds flat to 5 1/2" square and fits inside a standard square envelope for mailing.
